I-85 Toll Rate Pricing

Toll rates on the I-85 Express Lanes will be based on the concept of dynamic pricing, meaning the average rates will be determined by how many people want to use the Express Lanes at any given time.
A traffic study conducted to estimate user demand for the I-85 Express Lanes determined that an average trip of between six and seven miles would cost in the range of $0.60 to $6.00, depending on the level of traffic congestion. It is estimated that more than 90 percent of customers will pay less than $5.00 for their Express Lane trip or no toll at all.
Ultimately, the price of the I-85 Express Lanes at a specific location and point in time will be determined by consumer demand. As traffic in the Express Lanes increase, the toll prices at the various segments will increase. As traffic in the Express Lanes decreases, the toll price will also decrease.
Toll schedules will be recalculated and the toll rate will be displayed on changeable message signs (CMSs) at each SRTA HOT Lane entry point at a configurable time period (minimum of every 5 minutes), 24 hours a day. This means drivers will always be aware of the current toll price and can choose whether or not entering the Express Lanes makes sense for them.
